A Winter in Vermont

I was beyond excited when this incredibly beautiful Vermont winter shoot came my way by the talented Carla Ten Eyck Photography because it proves in so many ways {fashion, scenery, shrugs + scarfs} why winter is so gorgeous for weddings with a little creativity and tolerance for cold. Set in Vermont, the shoot captures such beautiful light and winter spirit that you almost forget it’s just a styled shoot… it kind of just has a life of it’s own complete with personal touches. My favorite? The milk punch, prepared by Nichole of Coral Pheasant Stationery:

“Milk Punch goes particularly well with the inside warmth and soft light of winter holidays. The charred barrel flavors of bourbon and vanilla mix delightfully with milk. Egg nog be damned!” {Receipt below}

Milk Punch Recipe

5 cups of a mixture of whole milk and half-and-half (4:1 is suggested)
1 1/2 cups bourbon, another whiskey or brandy
1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Freshly grated nutmeg, for garnish.
In a pitcher, whisk together milk, half-and-half, bourbon, sugar and vanilla. Freeze until slushy, which will take 3 to 4 hours, but you can leave it in there up to a day. Stir before serving it in chilled glasses, finished with a few gratings of fresh nutmeg.

Winter Tartan

My obsession with tartan only gets bigger as we get deeper and deeper into the winter so when this gorgeous Maryland shoot by dKin Photography came my way I instantly fell in love… With the flowers, the plaid shirt + wedding skirt combo, the beautifully set table and everything in between. So I can only hope that it inspires your creativity as much as mine!

Elegant Winter Details

As you may know, I have a major soft spot for winter weddings. Why? Well, I sometimes wonder that myself but I think it comes down to a combination of a few things.

My list?

1. The winter shrug {from past posts, I can’t get enough of these here and here}.
2. The cost… don’t we all know that a middle of January wedding will be a lot cheaper than a middle of June one??
3. White! I am a huge fan of white details throughout a wedding..more than just in the dress and somehow a winter wedding makes more white more acceptable
4. Floral – There is something very elegant about the soft color palette of winter flowers and the occasional pine tree piece or pine cone never hurt anyone

Some highlights from today’s little details? I of course love the delicate wedding dress back {first photo} and absolutely love these rustic chic wedding invites by The Lovely Drawer {sixth photo}. It’s always wonderful to see wedding details that have a homemade feel and are designed especially for the couple!

Happy Monday!

Top 10 Winter Bouquets

As you may know, I kind of have a thing for pretty wedding bouquets so it was only fitting for a top 10 winter floral countdown! I tried to steer clear of my very usual suspects and go for a few surprises. Instead, I think I wound up with about half being very predictable and half being at least semi-unique. But hey, at least they’re all pretty!
