The Beautiful Fall Centerpiece

It may still be the dog days of summer, but on the wedding front, it’s well past time to start your fall wedding planning. Centerpieces come after a long line of other wedding duties… booking the reception and ceremony venues, the dress, the bridesmaids dresses, the tux, the music, the pictures, a videographer etc etc so by the time you’ve made it to your decor ideas for the reception, you may not have much time left. So start planning now!

We are only right at the start of August after all so you have plenty of time to think pumpkins, reds and oranges before the leaves turn and your wedding is here. But coming up with the ever important decor for your wedding shouldn’t be left to the very last minute when there is plenty to be done to prepare before your big day. Now I’m normally not into the cheesy season approach to wedding planning (pumpkins for fall and Easter eggs for the spring), but when chosen elegantly, you can add the best of fall without making your guests feel like they’ve gone pumpkin picking. So instead of just pumpkins galore, choose ways to spice these pieces up, like giving them a shimmer (first photo below), cutting out the pumpkins altogether but sticking with the strong fall colors (two options below), or keep the pumpkins but make them part of the centerpiece – not the whole thing. It’s all about finding the right balance; you don’t want your guests to think it’s the middle of the summer when, well, Halloween is tomorrow, but you also want to stay clear of a full cornucopia of pumpkins and mums. So the moral of the story, start planning now so that you have the right fall touches in your decor, but they are toned down to the perfect level of seasonal spirit.

Vintage Details

Weddings are all about the details from the lighting to the place cards; the music selection to the appetizers. But sometimes the details can become fragmented when you’re trying to pull together so many different elements into one very short day. One way to avoid a big, disjointed wedding day is to stick with a specific theme and colors that all help add to the day instead of leaving guests wondering what kind of a wedding they had just been to…

These days, all things vintage seem to be on the forefront of high fashion and lifestyle choices with everything from clothes to homes to weddings. So today it’s all about the vintage details! We’re not talking an entire vintage reception (we aren’t suggesting a complete throwback), instead you can give your wedding the vintage feel by adding some simple (and some very budget friendly, do-it-yourself) accessories. Like what? It’s all about the little things when we talk details, so just a few suggestions in pictures… starting with some fun vintage save-the-dates and invitations, your engagement ring (yes that will be “at” the wedding too!), using old books as centerpieces and old suitcases for guests to drop off their gift envelopes or even to store your vintage place cards, or how about leaving your guests with these adorable macaroon favors in a very vintage “vase”… still not convinced? Trust me, you will be once you add these little details to the big day and tie all of your wedding decisions and decor together!

The Wedding Palette – Black & White Effect

Black and white… my favorite two colors (really, they are). I know, maybe not the most exciting to some, but to me these are the perfect wedding colors. The black and white palette may be as traditional as they come; but there are ways to make even these colors wow your guests and leave an impression. The thing with blacks and whites is that the object needs to be special since the colors are, well, just black and white.

What you want to avoid is boring your guests which is why you need to choose carefully from the reception venue (check out the incredible Addison Park below) to your bridesmaids dresses (I am in love with this short black organza Romona Keveza dress). But it’s not just your choices for the things that guests notice most; it’s the little things like the shoes (two options below… both amazing and very different), the centerpieces (think outside of the box – instead of floral use something like these oversized candlesticks) and of course the bouquets (you never see just rose bouquets, so why not be a little different). The thing that makes these black and white wedding ideas so special is how they make this color palette come to life and give a wedding it’s very own character…

The Modern Bride

I’m nearly positive that by now you all know that I am very traditional in “wedding style” but even I like to branch out once in awhile especially when I remind myself that we do live in the 21st century. So today we’re throwing ourselves into the ultra-modern mindset because I imagine there are plenty of weddings that are inspired by all things modern, sleek, with clean lines and lots of stark white!

So what is a modern wedding? Well, I imagine that everything from fashion to venue choice and all of the little details in between would be modern but as always, I will start with the dress (always my favorite wedding accessory)! I couldn’t pick only one because (although modern) these bridal gowns are really fabulous! Both from the Spring 2012 collections (I’m seeing a modern trend here…) they are sleek, stylish yet elegant at the same time. I think of white as a very modern color; it’s sterile, clean and simple, and for a twist on the traditional, a white bridesmaids dress is only fitting. The short one below is perfect with it’s slightly metallic fabric and sharp lines. From the venue decor (like the “hanging centerpieces”) to the lace boots, every detail screams modern at this wedding, and I bet as we see more “futuristic” dress designs, we’ll also be seeing more of everything modern wedding…

Enchanted – For a Fairy Tale Wedding

Whether you like them or not, we all grew up with fairy tales. Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Rapunzel have all made their way into our hearts and still inspire us to dream about our own happy ending. And isn’t your wedding day supposed to be just that?

Every bride deserves an enchanted wedding day whether it’s big or small, so here are some “fairy tale inspired” ideas to bring out the Sleeping Beauties in each of us…

I imagine colors in fairy tales to be light, airy and delicate which is why a pale pink and light turquoise are so fitting. The setting doesn’t need to be in the middle of a pink enchanted forest (first photo), but your photos can be done in a unique and enchanted place of your own. How about your reception venue? Well, a castle may be more realistic than you think..   Although the Egeskov Castle in Denmark (second photo) may not be available for your reception, there are so many castle-like venues that can help to create your fairy tale wedding. And the dresses…. I picked a light blue for the bridesmaids (forth photo), and yes although the dramatic staircase below isn’t necessarily realistic, it is meant to inspire the type of wedding photos that you would find only in fairy tales. Finally, the wedding gowns (fifth and sixth photos) are of course romantic but strong and simply perfect for an enchanted affair.
