Nautical Bermuda

When I used to imagine Bermuda, I would find myself dreaming of the pink sandy beaches, turquoise water, mopeds (scooters) and pastel colored homes… Isn’t that what we all know about Bermuda?

What I never thought about was all the boats!! Bermuda is filled with marinas, docks, and boats galore which means a destination wedding in Bermuda doesn’t necessarily have to mean a beach and a pink color palette. It could also mean a very fun nautical themed wedding! The best part of this idea is that although Bermuda is my inspiration for all things this week, you can create your own nautical themed wedding practically anywhere (well, where there are boats and water of course). But seeing all the beautiful marinas and peaceful sail boats in Bermuda got me thinking about how great this island would be for a non-beach wedding. Yes, I said it, a non-beach wedding in Bermuda! My colors today are all about the nautical theme which means a lot of blue inspired by the traditional nautical blue and white stripe. So first, my inspiration? I picked a few of my favorite spots that inspired this theme + all the makings to a nautical Bermuda (or anywhere) wedding extravaganza! From the dresses (I chose two long, whimsical blue dresses for the bridesmaids), to the ultra structured wedding gown, the blue bouquet, blue wedding invites (two choices), lovely sail boat place cards (really, how amazing are these!!), some inspiring fashion selections for the groom (in the form of boat shoes) and of course a decorative cake with a navy finish. This theme is simply amazing!!!

Bermuda Fashion 101: The Shorts

We’ve all heard of Bermuda shorts right? I’m imagining the pale pink or pretty light blue, perfectly hemmed and tailored to fit items sold at the likes of J Crew and Vineyard Vines storefronts. Authentic? Not so much…

Bermuda shorts are actually really spectacular (not tacky) when worn correctly and where do you think the name came from… Bermuda of course! Before popular chain stores were creating a fashion phenomenon of the Bermuda short, men of Bermuda were wearing them around the island for anything from work, to everyday, to yes, you knew I was going here… weddings!

If you are planning a wedding in Bermuda, do not underestimate how incredible a statement your soon to be groom (and his friends) could make with a bit of the old school Bermudian fashion sense. And here are the pictures to prove it. In Bermuda, I’m thinking that a wedding would not be complete without “the Bermuda short”…

Need a little color for your wedding? Have black and white got you stuck in a rut? Let Bermuda serve as a bit of inspiration for your planning…

There are so many beautifully colored spots in Bermuda, in fact literally everywhere you turn, the island is painted in some bright (or light) pink, orange, blue, peach, yellow, the list goes on! The turquoise beaches, the pink sand, the candy colored houses, the lush green trees, the colors are all surreal. But of all the colorful places, for me the most inspiring was certainly Flatts Inlet (see below). Every time I think of this peaceful little nook, I imagine all of the colors that can be used so impressively in a spring wedding… this little place even makes me want to combine them all together into one big rainbow wedding palette!! For the practical bride, this may be a bit of a stretch so instead pick one color (or two if you can’t resist) and you will soon be dreaming of a wedding in color…

My colors of Bermuda were all inspired by this little inlet… and the selections? A pale green Vera Wang bridal gown, some colorful groomsmen, a pastel cake and bouquet, and lots of bridesmaid dress picks!! Enjoy!

As promised, since I spent the last few days gallivanting in the sun and not adding anything new and exciting on One to Wed, this week will make up for it as we dive into everything Bermuda! Everyday we’ll take on a new angle of anything wedding + Bermuda because I just can’t seem to shake this little island!

Bermuda is just about the perfect place for, well, just about anything! There is a bit of everything in Bermuda.. it’s a little bit Caribbean, a little bit American, a little British, a little Canadian, a little bit city (think the capital of Hamilton), a lot beachy, and a very lot pink (seriously, the sand has a very distinct pink glimmer to it). All these little bits of everything make Bermuda the perfect destination wedding for so many brides-to-be!

So to officially kick off our very own Bermuda week, I couldn’t help but start by planning your entire destination wedding in Bermuda! I want to differentiate the idea of a “destination wedding” a little bit because I’ve done a few posts now on a “destination inspired wedding” meaning that you can take your dream location and re-create it in your own backyard (or general vicinity). This should not be confused with the real destination weddings we’ll feature on One to Wed! Think real ideas and places that you’ll find in Bermuda and other perfect (or maybe just unique/crazy/fun/cool) wedding locales, not necessarily at home in your own backyard (or town). So how do you start creating your Bermudian destination wedding? The basics of course.

Ceremony + Reception. A perfect wedding dress. Exquisite bridesmaids dresses, and a fabulous pair of pink pearl earrings as the gift for the maids. Pink shoes, pink sand, a pink cake. Okay, this is a lot of pink I know, but a destination wedding in Bermuda would not be complete without some pink finishes!!
